Virus Under a Microscope

Mixed Media, December 2011
Original. 54 x 28.5″

In the fall of 2011 and in my first year as a middle-school art teacher, I would often drive to the nearby recycling plant to find ways to repurpose plastics into student artwork of some kind. I found that they would have strict policies on giving out the materials that they would take in but loved that they helped me raise money to donate art supplies for my classroom.
With the surplus art supplies, I taught a unit on Jackson Pollock and how he used a series of coordinated movements around a canvas rather than painting it on a wall. I originally digitized this work as a lesson template for future students but could not help but gawk at how beautiful it was after showing a 6th grade class how to paint in the same style.

Only the Highest Quality Materials

My work is designed to shine on its own so I only print my artwork on metallic surfaces. Aluminum is a material that ensures that your artwork could potentially last several lifetimes. The texture on each aluminum print features a brushed finish, smooth edge and is designed to glisten with the paint
