Some of the most decadently beautiful plants, bushes, and trees I’ve seen in Beverly Hills neighborhoods grow as commonly as a dandelion back in Texas. My afternoon walk despite the pandemic involves going a few blocks to explore my neighborhood while also seeing the local flora out in full bloom. I used to own a print called Irises by Vincent Van Gogh (1889) and decided I would recreate one my own versions of that painting since many giant irises are all over the neighborhood around me.
In this painting, I’m also continuing my theme exploration of attempting to digitally create strong artificial textures for aluminum plate printing. This painting combines impressionist/abstract expressionist art styles with the abstract blending of pandemic-style landscapes. In doing some research on Vincent Van Gogh and Jackson Pollock, I found they would be part of the best candidates for the targeting of extreme painting textures. The marching-type movement happening in Mural (1943) by Jackson Pollock and Irises (1889) by Van Gogh would be sampled to reflect the same energetic motion felt while walking past such decadent landscapes.
