Organic Garden

Mixed Media, April 2020
Original. 54 x 43″

The Beverly Hills neighborhoods I explored during my afternoon walks were adorned with remarkably exquisite plants, bushes, and trees that flourished as abundantly as dandelions back in Texas. Despite the ongoing pandemic, I ventured a few blocks to immerse myself in the beauty of my surroundings, witnessing the local flora in full bloom. Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s “Irises” (1889), a print I once owned, I decided to create my own rendition of this painting, as the neighborhood is filled with majestic irises.

Furthermore, this artwork serves as a continuation of my exploration into the creation of strong artificial textures for printing on custom material like wood, glass, or metal. By combining impressionist and abstract expressionist art styles with the abstract blending of pandemic-style landscapes, I aim to digitally produce captivating textures. In my research on Vincent Van Gogh and Jackson Pollock, I discovered that they would serve as excellent sources for extreme painting textures. The rhythmic movements found in Jackson Pollock’s “Mural” (1943) and Vincent Van Gogh’s “Irises” (1889) would be sampled to evoke the same dynamic energy experienced while strolling past these opulent landscapes.
