Inside the Current

Mixed Media, September 2018
Original. 42 x 54.5″

In my exploration of the effects of heat on objects in the state capital area, I focused my study on the newly constructed downtown public library in Austin, Texas, which was surrounded by other glass buildings. The positioning of the library in the heart of downtown created a fascinating interplay of light, with each sunrise and sunset casting reflections onto various objects in the surrounding landscape.

In this image, my aim was to visually convey the unique and captivating quality of the light created by a hot summer sunset. To create this artwork, I positioned myself within the library, allowing the indirect reflective light to envelop me from all directions. I sought to capture not only the play of light, but also the serene and tranquil atmosphere that I experienced in that moment. This painting was created digitally, as I endeavored to translate both the visual and emotional presence of the scene onto the digital canvas.
