While working on my portrait series, I wanted to explore society’s perception of “ideal beauty.” To initiate this, I conducted an image keyword search using words like “beautiful, charming, attractive, pretty, etc.” and discovered that many of the resulting images had undergone significant editing. Most of the images I found commonly had models being portrayed without a smile, and looking directly into the camera. I found a model that had several versions of her smiling but one of the many images stood out to me as being unexpected and somewhat tense.

In this image, I sought to contrast modern notions of beauty with traditional. I aimed to accentuate the textures and intricacies of the skin, surpassing the polished appearance typically associated with airbrushed social media influencers and their curated feeds.
