What Happens in a Meadow at Dusk

Mixed Media, December 2020
30 x 45″

I was on a cross-country “get my shit together” tour of the southwest United States gathering several bags, collectibles, and knickknacks I left behind in the move. The drive took me from Texas, to Arizona, and back to California. Because of the pandemic however, most of the cities I traveled through had varying COVID policies sometimes from city to city. While in Phoenix, I decided to go see one of the nearby botanical gardens as the sun was setting around the city.

In this image, I wanted to highlight the strange silhouetted colors and textures that are created when the sun sets in the high desert. Every sunrise/sunset I saw in Arizona always brought purples, pinks, and beautiful yellows into the landscape. The title of this image is also a reference to the movie, I Heart Huckabees” (2004).
