El Greco’s Dream

In the summer between graduating with my Associate’s degree and transferring to the nearby University, I made a series of acrylic paintings based on recurring dreams I was having. In it, I was climbing the hill past the depiction of the Castle of San Servando in El Greco’s “View of Toledo” painting (1596-1600). As I approached the top of the hill, I felt a cold gust of wind blowing through the trees while I shivered and admired the incoming storm clouds.

In this image, I wanted to blend the feeling of stepping into a renaissance master’s artwork and the courage to forge my own path.
