Canyon Sunset

Mixed Media, July 2009
Original. 74 x 34″

After my first year teaching art, I felt a bit homesick and decided to delve deeper into the realm of post-impressionism, with a particular focus on utilizing a palette knife as my primary tool for painting. Fascinated by the techniques of renowned artist Vincent Van Gogh, I discovered that he used various art tools including palette knives and the paint tube itself when it came to creating his signature style.

In this image, I sought to capture the essence of the captivating landscape I grew up seeing in Amarillo, Texas.
